I need a Blackberry

Or at least that's what I'm telling myself. I think it would help me in my multi-tasking, Type A world.

For example, this morning I'm getting the kids ready for a trip to the park. I'll make sure the older girls get exercise by riding their bikes and I'll work on my 1/2 marathon training by pushing the younger 2 in the jogger. Sounds productive and multi-task-ish, right?

But once we're at the playground . . . I have nothing to do but sit around and make small talk with the other Moms. I'm not good at sitting and I really dislike small talk. Neither are very productive.

But if I had a Blackberry, just imagine all of the great law stuff I'd get done while also being SuperMom Who Takes Her Kids To The Park . . .

I think I need to add 'review finances in effort to justify Blackberry purchase' to my To Do list. You know, I'd be able to do that from the park - if I had a Blackberry.

What We Do

I am continually amazed that people - our own clients included - do not know what it is Jim and I do at C&C Law. We've got a big sign on the side of our building with our name and 'Workers' Comp/Auto Accidents/Slip and Fall' written out in big letters. We send out a (sort of) frequent newsletter addressing what we do. Our phone book ads reiterate what it is we do.

And yet - people will call us looking for help with family matters, criminal issues or real estate. Or we'll run into friends or family who know we have a law firm, know where the office is - but do not know what we do.

We want people to know what we do. The image above is our new ad for the phone book. We hope that our message is clear: We Know Injury Law.

Social Media

The term 'social media' is all over the, well, media. In an effort to stay cool and hip (and possibly make some rain), I've joined FaceBook, LinkedIn and have set up my avvo profile. I haven't spent enough time with LinkedIn to understand the benefits and my avvo profile is remarkably boring until I can get some clients or fellow attorneys to rate me. And it just seems kind of sad sending email to people I may not have spoken with in some time: "please rate me".

I am rather enjoying FB. One of the first people with whom I connected was Trace Hanson, an old friend from Kutztown University. Trace designed the header for this blog - thanks!!!

Thru FB I've also reconnected with high school friends and we are now planning an unofficial Reunion Run - it appears that many of us are now runners (or maybe they were all running back then, I know I wasn't) and we'll be doing the Seaside Heights 1/2 Marathon in October.

Have I gotten new clients from Social Media? Probably not. But I have had a good time finding and catching up with old friends under the guise of developing a tech presence for professional purposes.

My First Blog

I'm in Gettysburg, PA attending a 3 day legal conference on Law Practice Management. All attorneys are required to keep up with the current state of the law and we need to take 12 credits of 'continuing education' per year. I am happy to get all of my annual credits in one fell swoop and enjoy the bonus of getting away by myself for a few days. For the past few years, I've had a running 'To Do' list in my head. Before I was a Mama, my To Do list was updated daily on a sticky note placed on the side of my computer monitor. I looked at it every day when I sat at my desk and worked on important legal things. Since having children, my sticky notes have been reappropriated by my junior staff and if I am lucky enough to find one, it's usually stuck to the dog's tail or crumpled in the dryer vent.In any event, I am using my time in Gettysburg to physically write down my To Do list and then to follow through and actually DO the To Do list items. I want to become more tech savvy and decided to create a blog. So I've spent the past 1/2 hour setting up this blog and getting started. And here I am. I have a blog! Next on my list is 'Buy a Castle in Scotland' . . . that one might take a while.
